Bachelor Cooking  - Killer Garlic Bread

We've all been to a nice (or not so nice) steak house. The beef was okay, but the garlic bread keeps you coming back for more. Well, here's how to make your own, and I bet it's better than they serve in your town!

How Dave makes Killer Garlic Bread Click each photo to view them full sized.
1. First, gather the ingredients. Yes, that means going to the grocery store. You will need bread, butter (real butter), garlic salt, parmesan cheese, and Lawry's garlic bread mix.
2. Next, mix the butter and Lawry's spread. The instructions say to use equal parts. Dave says to use double the garlic spread. That is to say, one part butter to two parts spread. To make it easier to mix, I usually microwave the two for about 10 seconds.
3. Here's the mixture. Looks pretty nasty, doesn't it? Well, that means you did good!

4. Spread the mixture on your bread. You can use whatever bread you have laying around. This time, I used some nice hamburger buns that I had laying around. If you want to go the extra mile, get yourself a fresh loaf of French bread from the market. Oh, before I forget, you'll need a cookie sheet. It's better to do this on a cookie sheet now. You'll understand why later.

5. Sprinkle a SMALL amount of garlic salt on the bread and then spread a LARGE amount of parmesan cheese on the bread. Don't get the two mixed up, puhlease!
6. Now, make sure EVERYTHING else you are cooking is done before proceeding. Trust me on this. I've burned many a garlic bread because I tried to do two things at once! WARNING
7. Fire up the stove and set it to Broil (that means all the fire goes to the bottom tray). Let the broiler warm up for a couple of minutes. Now, slide your cookie sheet into the broiler and DO NOT LEAVE the kitchen for any reason.
8. Wait about two minutes and CHECK THE BREAD REGULARLY. I'm not kidding. One false move here and your toast will be toast...literally! I stand there and check mine every minute or so. If anyone gets in your way, I suggest you beat them with a rolling pin and get back to your garlic bread!
9. If you notice that the bread is not cooking evenly, do a little switcheroo and put the light slices toward the rear. But be ready to pull everything out in a moment's notice!
10. You are ready to serve your Killer Garlic bread. Enjoy!
You'll notice that there was no time to relax and have a beer while making your Killer Garlic bread. That's just the way it is! -Dave
